BENICIA ARSENAL ARTISTS

Benicia Arsenal Artists is a collective of emerging and established San Francisco Bay Area artists. Painters, photographers, sculptors and a myriad of creatives have long been attracted to the light and creative spirit of the Arsenal.

The historic Benicia arsenal has a rich history of housing studios of well known artists such as Manuel Neri, Judy Chicago, Arthur Stern, Ludell Deutscher, Bill Harsh and Mike Kendall.

ABOUT THE ARSENAL

Located  in the lower Arsenal area and adjacent to the Carquinez Straits where the Sacramento Delta meets the San Francisco Bay, the buildings date back to 1849.  The Arsenal was opened as a primary US Army ordnance facility for the West Coast, the only one west of the Mississippi (and was deactivated in 1963) .

Characterized by older historical buildings it now houses a thriving close-knit art community with art & photography studios, small boutique businesses, professional offices and light industrial enterprises.
